Welcome to Mark A. Roeder's Gay Youth Chronicles

The Gay Youth Chronicles is
a series of novels about growing up, discovering one’s self, coming
out, falling in love, and simply living life as young and gay. More
than 70 novels follow a group of interrelated characters as they
deal with the issues of prejudice, hatred, violence, and teen
suicide. Set in fictional Verona and Blackford, Indiana as well as
real-life Bloomington and Indiana University, The Gay Youth
Chronicles delves at times into the supernatural and even fantasy
and are about much more than coming out. They are about living life
as a gay youth back in the 1910s and into the 21st Century.
What readers
think of the Gay Youth Chronicles
I
came across your books by chance about twenty years ago and
immediately fell in love with them. I really liked the
characters, and saw some of myself in them. Things have only
gotten better over the years. I eagerly await the next
books. |

I
find that reading your work has allowed me to enjoy the
stories and escape into a world of your creation, but it’s
more. It’s allowed me a small connection (that word again)
to a life I escaped, yet think of fondly, if not nostalgic.
It is also makes real the worries and navigation as a young
gay man of the 80's and 90’s in the midwest. And I
appreciate that voice that is rarely heard. You tell a good
story. Better, you allow the reader to transport themselves
into it. |
I
happened to come across "Outfield Menance" because I was
intrigued with baseball and gay life. I fell in love with
the characters and Mark's writing style. So since 2009 I
have been reading all all his books. I like the boys of
Verona and Blackford. The struggle of being gay during the
times that are in the stories are real. And Mark makes it
real. |
