A Visit to "Verona"

to August 29, 2002, I visited Mark in Indiana.
As part of my visit we went to several places that inspired the
locations of various events in Mark's novels. At times it was like
visiting Verona. I will warn you some of the places are different
from how I had pictured them so if you want to keep how you see
things in your head you may not want to look.
The
Farms

All of the various farms
in Mark's novels in some ways get their inspiration from the
farm of Mark's grandparents. Pictured here are a couple photos
of the barn and one of the pond
that he pictures Ethan and Nathan swimming in. The pond was much
nicer when Mark was young. There are some more photos of the

High School

Central High School. It was the high school
Mark attended. Some changes have
been made since then especially the entrance. |

Amusement
Park

Holiday World amusement
park in Santa Claus, Indiana serves as the inspiration for
Halloween World in The Soccer Field is Empty and
Someone Is Watching. An abandoned version of
Holiday World is seen in The
Vampire's Heart. |

room I stayed in and it's affectionately called the Graymour
Room because all of the furniture in the room appears in the
Graymour Mansion. |
